I named this article Round 1. But after watching this debate between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan, is there a need for another round? Joe Biden proved he was ready for this debate. Even though all of the laughing and interrupting made him appear unprofessional, he effectively knocked Paul Ryan off his pedestal. Ryan may have contributed to that task by continually drinking water? What was he really drinking? I could have sworn I saw a piece of lime on the glass when the debate started. Who sips water anyway? And with all of the security concerns, seems like he would have been given a bottled water, if that's what he was drinking. And what was that thing with Ryan's neck? The debate was so fiery, that Paul Ryan was working his neck like a black woman yelling at her man. The moderator demanded that Paul Ryan give specifics to his answers, but he refuse and continued with his double talk on every issue. Some of the questions/issues for the debate are below. It has been stated that this moderator is really good friends with Barack Obama, and their was fear that she would not be as fair. Their fears came true, as she continually would cut off Paul Ryan during his answer to a question, so that Joe Biden could ramble on. He already had his turn on the question, why not let the other guy give his answer too?
Libya Massive Intelligence Failure:
Biden: He adamantly promised to find the people who killed Stevens. The attack was pre-planned and that protesters were absent. He then starts to talk about the differences between Obama and Romney. Not sure what that had to do with the Libya question, but that's Joe Biden. Biden also claims that Obama has repaired our alliances worldwide. The Obama administration was first told about the Libyan attack by the intelligence community, and that the investigation continues. Biden claimed they did not know the ambassador wanted more security. (Let me interject and say that that was a DUH moment. Who in their right mind would willingly travel to the the Middle East and not want as much security as possible?)
Ryan: He said that Obama was slow to act on the terrorist attack in Libya. Also claims that the Obama administration is passing the buck as to why there was not more security. He disclosed that Biden failed to get an agreement for more security. So, is it as Biden said they did not know the ambassador wanted more security, or is it they were not able to get more security? What about just giving the ambassador more security regardless? Maybe he would still be alive today. Ryan does, however, agree with the 2014 draw down in Afghanistan. Ryan stated that everyone should always stand for peace, democracy, and rights. Biden interrupted Ryan and called his response a bunch of malarchy. Ryan did question why a marine detail was not given to the ambassador. Biden did not answer.
Should the United States Apologize for Anti Muslim Actions?
Ryan: Yes, we should apologize. But we should not apologize for standing up for our values. (Is pissing on people or damaging another persons religious item an American value? I hope not.)
How effective would a military strike be on Iran?
Ryan: We cannot allow Iran to continue on their path. The Obama administration have fought to have sanctions, but do not view the military option as credible. He also stated that Obama is not taking the Iranian threat seriously. Ryan states that he and Romney want to prevent war and do everything peacefully. He also claims that Iran is more isolated now than before Obama took office. A nuclear armed Iran is worse than another middle eastern war. It is very possible that Iran can start an arms race in middle east.
Biden: (Biden had a very confused look on his face as Ryan answered this question. I don't know if it was because Ryan was drunk or because of Ryan's opinion of how the Obama administration is handling the Iran threat.) Biden retorts that our allies would not agree to sanctioning Iran. The reason being is because Iran is a long way from getting nuclear weapons. Going to war with Iran is the last resort. The Obama administration heavily relies on the intelligence community to disclose when Iran receives nuclear weapons. He claims facts matter more than the hypothesis' coming from the Romney campaign. But then he says that if we took action against Iran, the world would be behind the United States.
Jobs are below 8%, but Obama predicted less than 6%. Can you get unemployment to under 6% and how long will it take?
Biden: Promised that the Obama administration will get unemployment under 6%, but doesn't know how long it will take. He stated how the middle class rescued General Motors, Wall Street, banks, etc. and began to recite all types of figures to prove that what they are doing is working. Bailing out the auto industry saved over 1 million jobs, whereas Romney wanted to allow them to go bankrupt. He also stated how the Republicans are holding middle class tax cuts hostage unless the rich get a tax cut too. Biden wishes that the Republicans would get out of the way so that the Obama administration can implement tax reform. Then Biden starts to rant about how Ryan asked the Obama administration for stimulus for the state of Wisconsin. (Why wouldn't Ryan ask for stimulus money for the state he represents? Another DUH moment. I'm not sure what Biden was trying to prove by bringing up this subject.)
Ryan: He agrees that Obama inherited a bad situation, but is now going in the wrong direction. He begins to throw out figures too. He stated that we need real reforms and real recovery. The Romney campaign has a five-point plan that will get America back on it's feet, but recited it so fast, I'm not sure anyone picked up on it. Hopefully someone will ask the Romney campaign to go into further explanation of this five-point plan. Ryan also claims that Romney cares about every body no matter their economic state. When Obama became the president, he had total control of Congress because the House and the Senate were majority democratic. They passed what they wanted without taking into consideration of Republican opinion. The Moderator asked Ryan how to get jobs below 6%, but like Romney in the Presidential Debate, he glossed over the answer without giving one. (So basically neither side will get unemployment below 6%).
Will Medicare and Medicaid have to Change in Order to Survive?
Ryan: Medicare and Social Security must be reformed. Ryan states that Obamacare is spending a dollar twice by taking money from Medicare to spend on Obamacare. Ryan also disclosed that Obama has appointed a board to cut medicare, but this board does not have any medical training. (That's like hiring a felon to be a police officer. They know a little about the law, but don't care to uphold it.) The Romney campaign wants to give guaranteed options to everyone. The poor will receive 100% coverage, the middle class will be eligible for most coverage, and the rich will have little to no coverage. Senior citizens will continue to lose benefits if Medicare/Medicaid is not reformed. Younger people, those under 54 right now, will be able to choose coverage. (I like this.) Ryan also stated that Obama is using scare tactics to get people to vote for him.
Biden: States that the Obama administration refuses to privatize Social Security or reform Medicare/Medicaid because it is better off than 4 years ago. (It is?) Another reason that they refuse to privatize Social Security is because had they done so 4 years ago, a lot of people would be totally bankrupt because of the stock market crash. (True. But you would have to be dumb to put all your eggs in one basket.) Also, states that the guaranteed benefits are nothing but vouchers, and the Obama administration will never be part of a voucher system.
Who will pay more in taxes and less?
Biden: States that the middle class will pay less taxes, but those making over a million dollars will pay more. Claims Romney is holding the middle class tax cut hostage unless the rich are given a tax cut as well. The middle class need help, but Romney will not cut loopholes.
Ryan: The Romney campaign will create seven million jobs. Creating or giving tax cuts will not fix the deficit. Excessive spending by Obama is causing high taxes. Stated that we need tax reform by lowering taxes and not raising the deficit. (I agree with the moderator on demanding that he answer the question. The answer he gave had nothing to do with the question.)
2000 soldiers have died in Afghanistan so far. Why not end the war now?
Ryan: States that we do not want to the lose gains we gave made. Skeptical about negotiating with the Taliban, but does not want them to return. The Romney campaign does not want to stay in Afghanistan and wants to ensure the 2014 draw down is successful. Also stated that Obama's foreign policy is unraveling.
Biden: States we went there to get Al-Qaeda. We are training the Afghan military because it's their responsibility to secure themselves. He was very adamant that the draw down is definite in 2014, and that 49 of our allies agree with the 2014 draw down. However, he did not respond to the question as why surge troops were pulled out during heavy fighting.
Abortion/Religion
Ryan: Stated that he is a Catholic, and that private life and public life cannot be separated from a person's faith. He is abortion unless in the case of rape, incest, or the life of the mother. He believes life begins at conception because he saw the heartbeat of his first born child at seven weeks in the womb. He also stated that Obama is against freedom of religion.
Biden: He is also a practicing Catholic. He accepts the church's position on abortion, and that life begins at conception. However, he refuses to impose his beliefs on other people, and does not believe that anyone has the right to tell a woman what she can do with her body. The Catholic organization do not have to refer contraception. Also, stated that the next President will have two Supreme court judges. He promises that the Obama administration will pick people with open minds.
If you are elected what would you do with this country?
Ryan: He simply stated that we need people to do what they say they are going to do, and offer solutions to fix problems.
Biden: Stated that his record stands for itself. He does what he says. Wants to level the field for the middle class, because they grow the economy.
Closing Statements:
Biden: Admits that they inherited bad circumstances, but they are acting to bring relief. The middle class is looking for a shot and wants some piece of mind. He wants to level the playing field. However Joe Biden was not looking at the camera, and did not ask for America to vote for him and Obama.
Ryan: He looks directly at the camera, and asks what kind of country do we want. States how we deserve better and how the Romney campaign are offering reforms for every American, not just some. Economy is stagnant because Obama's policies are not working. Promises a dynamic growing economy that creates jobs. He directly asks for our vote.
